Båthuset* (see footnote) was originally a house built in 1952 by Harry Lauveng, a fisherman from Sommarøy, to house his family. We have completely renovated it recently following the recommendations of the international label “Green Key”. The work has been completed at the end of 2022.
It is located in the heart of our center, with direct access to the beach and has everything you need to feel good. It is exposed to the south and enjoys the slightest ray of sunshine. The view offers, in the background, a vast panorama on the northern coast of Senja Island about ten kilometers away. An archipelago of small desert islands completes meanwhile, the foreground with turquoise waters.

The original volumes (the rooms look like boat cabins), have been respected to keep an energy sobriety more necessary than ever. The insulation, executed with special care, also contributes to the energy sobriety of the building like the 58 other different points on which we have worked to reduce its carbon footprint. It has 3 levels. The middle one is the rallying point with the common room that opens onto the terrace and its staircase that goes down to the beach.
The decoration, sober and neat, refers to the polar expeditions carried out by Olivier.

ecolodge sommarøy un choix éco-responsable

The name Båthuset (Baadhuset in Old Norwegian) refers to an episode of the 2nd Fram Expedition (1898-1902) during which Captain Otto Sverdrup, after positioning the Fram in its second wintering port, set out in a rowboat with three crew members to explore and map the regions in their west. A hundred kilometers from their base, they found themselves trapped and turned their boat on the beach for shelter. They lived there for a few weeks waiting for the ice to thicken enough to allow them to reach the Fram on foot. The outcome went according to plan. In 2014, Olivier and his team, in partnership with the Fram Museum, set sail in the wake of the 2nd Fram expedition for a four-and-a-half-month polar campaign.
