An eco-responsible approach

This original choice for holidays or work is part of an eco-responsible approach.

The founder’s words:
«The sea has taught me sufficiency. My sailboats, whether private or professional, have always been simply equipped, an essential point for long-distance expeditions. Repairability and reliability of equipment, optimization and saving of resources, as well as the fight against waste have become an automatism over time. The sea has also taught me that sufficiency and natural spaces can bring well-being and  fulfillment without compromising on comfort or safety. I observed that my crew enjoyed this way of life and since the planet is our vessel, it simply inspired us when creating our ecolodge Båthuset (the boat house). We are happy to share this with you.»
Olivier Pitras

In the heart of a fairytale archipelagosophrologie tromso norvège

The island of Sommarøy is located in the heart of a small fairytale archipelago. Only 50 kilometres from the city centre of Tromsø, the “Little Paris of the North”, and 7 km from the ferry to Senja Island. Sommarøy enjoys a privileged location in the region, on the edge of the fjords and the open sea. the island of Sommarøy is at the end of the road. Our next neighbours to the west live in the small village of Ittoqqortoormiit at the entrance to Soresbysund on the east coast of Greenland 🙂

An eco-lodge on the beach

Båthuset* (see footnote) was originally a house built in 1952 by Harry Lauveng, a fisherman from Sommarøy, to house his family. We have recently completely renovated it following the recommendations of the international “Green Key” label. The work was completed at the end of 2022.
It is located on the water’s edge, with direct access to the beach and has everything you need to feel good. It is south-facing and benefits from the slightest ray of sunshine, which is not a detail in our regions. The view offers, in the background, a vast panorama of the north coast of Senja Island, about ten kilometers away. The archipelago of small deserted islands completes the foreground with turquoise waters.

Rooms like boat cabinsecolodge Båthuset sommaroy Norvège

The original volumes (the rooms look like boat cabins) have been respected to keep an energy sufficiency more necessary than ever in cold regions and in times of climate change. The insulation, which is particularly careful, also contributes to the sufficiencyy of the building, as do the fifty-eight other points on which we have focused in order to be able to live comfortably while limiting its footprint on nature as much as possible.

The second floor is the common area with the dining room, the lounge area where the wood stove is located. This room, facing mainly south, opens onto the terrace and its staircase that goes down to the beach. It also offers openings to all four cardinal points.
The third floor has 4 double bedrooms and 1 triple bedroom. The 5 bedrooms share 1 bathroom with showers and toilet + 1 shower and 1 separate toilet.
We have chosen to equip all our beds with twenty-centimetre thick Simmons mattresses that offer much appreciated comfort. Added to the calm of the place, the whole allows you to serenely envisage a restful night, an essential point to recharge your batteries.

The name Båthuset (Baadhuset in Old Norwegian) refers to an episode of the 2nd Fram Expedition (1898-1902)

Captain Otto Sverdrup, after positioning the Fram in its second wintering port, set out in a rowboat with three crew members to explore and map the regions in their west. A hundred kilometers from their base, they found themselves trapped and turned their boat on the beach for shelter. They lived there for a few weeks waiting for the ice to thicken enough to allow them to reach the Fram on foot. The outcome went according to plan. In 2014, Olivier and his team, in partnership with the Fram Museum, set sail in the wake of the 2nd Fram expedition for a four-and-a-half-month polar campaign.
